Congratulations on your acceptance to the American University and the Washington College of Law. Our online Master of Legal Studies (MLS) program allows you to develop the legal expertise you need to make a positive impact on your community or organization. 

Read on for important next steps for enrollment, field placement, student resources and more.

Complete Your Enrollment

  • Sign and complete your Intent to Enroll document (you will receive this via email).
  • Pay your enrollment deposit.

Before You Begin Classes

You will need to complete the following tasks before you begin classes. Select each task to view instructions. 

  1. Complete a Welcome Call with a 2U Student Success Advisor
  2. Set up your university email address
  3. Schedule time for an Onboarding and Success Planning Call with a 2U Student Success Advisor 
  4. Register for Courses
  5. Review the Academic Calendar
  6. Ensure you have a plan for funding the program
  7. Order your official transcript(s) to be sent either electronically or via mail
  8. Review the Canvas How-To Guide to learn how to use the LMS
  9. Review your course syllabi and MLS Student Handbook
  10. Attend the Welcome Webinar
